Virtual Art Commission-Share your wall with me!
Commissions from the perspective of an artist or the client can get mixed reviews!
Concerns can arise around a client wanting a very similar image to another that has sold or the artist feeling that they are not working in a way that represents their creativity.
The way that I try to address these issues, is by getting to know the client, which in Covid times has involved an online chat or even a virtual tour of the space that is intended for the work. Parameters for discussion generally involve which of my works the client prefers such as seascape or landscape and it may be a specific time of day that has inspired them. Occasionally, a place that they have in mind may be the starting point from which the conversation begins about how an artwork will evolve.
The key to this is communicating and sharing my progress with the client through virtual chats and regular updates. A site specific work will generally involve me visiting the location if it's UK or Vancouver Island based or if the theme is more general, I will lay out my own thoughts as part of the written agreement. Also, I can photoshop your room with a similar work to help you visualise the final scale before starting the work. I am also happy to include the initial preparatory sketch as part of the journey together.
A journey together sounds a little pompous but it is really lovely to see how a work develops and for you to be a part of that. And, I love to see the final pieces arrive at their new home.
